In  this  creation of  TheWondering Mind,  I bore in mind the latin phrase  frustra laborat qui omnibus placere studet.

Loosely translated, it means you can't please the entire world. With that phrase in mind, I chose the following:

I chose to include pictures as I enjoy them and hope you do.  If not, well, so it goes.

Remember...

The best interpretation about a journey, a dream, or an ESP "hit" comes from you.  Others might be able to share insights, but...

no one knows you better than you do; not your mother,  not your significant other, not your best friend, not your therapist, not your  Great Aunt Matilda, no one.    No one else has looked through your eyes, or suffered your defeats, or reveled in your glories in quite the same way as you.

You are the expert about yourself.

Communication Betwixt and Between

Our April 2007 e-Newsletter stated our universe can and does communicate with us via symbols, signs, and omens.  In this issue we focus on direct communication in the context of spirit channeling or mediumship healing.  Channeling, a source of direct communication with or by beings outside (seemingly) our dimension of time can provide profound information, knowledge, and inspirational teachings and healings.

Currently, Joao Teixeira de Faria, John of God, considered to be one of the world's most extraordinary healers,  offers free physical, emotional, and spiritual healings at his Brazilian sanctuary, Casa de Dom Inacio de Loyola - Abadiania, Goias, Brazil.  The medium Joćo loses consciousness when he incorporates elevated spirit entities who then use his body to perform  operations, treatments and cures of the physical and spiritual bodies. All who visit the center may observe and participate in these healings.
.          "A Course in Miracles" first published by Foundation for Inner Peace in l976, a massive, comprehensive collection of spiritual teachings including a text, a workbook for students, and a manual for teachers began with Helen Schucman and William Thetford, Professors of Medical Psychology at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.
According to Schucman, three months prior to the actual writing of ACIM, she received strange images and highly symbolic dreams that she was encouraged by Thetfordl to write down.  Schucman then began receiving information, "hearing the Voice", an inner dictation that she wrote in a shorthand notebook.  Each day she would read to Thetford what the Voice, whom she had come to understand was the Voice of One  who had once incarnated as the One known as Jesus,  "said" and Thetford would type her dictation.  The dictation of the channeled material was a collaborative process that took several years.  A Course in Miracles teaches principles of Truth, Miracles, Forgiveness, Love, and much more and continues to profoundly affect millions of people, worldwide.
Another source of channeled information surfaced in the late l980's with Esther and Jerry Hicks.  Esther began channeling a group of elevated non-physical beings collectively named "Abraham."  Again, as with ACIM, the channeled information was inspirational, instructional, and based in Love and compassion. Abraham teaches about Univeral Laws - The Law of Attraction, the Law of Deliberate Creation, and The Law of Allowing - that are fundamental to our spiritual well-being and growth.
In 1963 Jane Roberts and her husband, Robert Butts made contact with a personality identified as Seth  Over a period of 21 years, Seth dictated prophecies, arcane, and unknown or hidden knowledge  and information that came to be known as the Seth Material.  One of the most well-known books, "Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul",  remains as compelling and inspirational as when first published in l972.
In addition to the famed examples noted above, thousands of people throughout history have channeled. Thousands continue to channel in present day. And many are opening up and  learning how to channel for themselves.  Inspiration, healings, transformational information, and  lost, hidden, or curently unknown  knowledge can be and are accessed from the Spirit world or multidimensional realms through the processes of mediumship or channeling.

Shamanic Spirit Channeling

By Barbara J. Cannell and Peter L. Clark

When we journey in non-ordinary reality, our Power Animal or Spirit Teacher guides us as we interact with the different spirit entities and landscapes. Through the careful process at the basis of core Shamanism, we meet and get to know our Guides, and learn that we can trust them to act in our greatest and highest good. And if we are working on behalf of a friend, family member, client, humanity as a whole, or the planet and beyond during a journey, we can trust that our Guides will give us information or help in the requested healing, again always for the greatest and highest good for all concerned.

The act of journeying is multi-dimensional, but the main action takes place wholly in non-ordinary reality. The act of channeling brings the spirit contact and action directly into ordinary reality. Your egoic self moves or shifts out of the way to allow the spirit to come into communication with your body.

Several levels of this communication are possible - depending on both the state of the channeler and the nature of the spirit entity. The spirit may communicate in a non-verbal vibrational manner. The spirit may pantomime - act out what is to be conveyed. The spirit may indeed speak in words, either to you - for you to then convey, or directly through you. Channeling brings the opportunity for people - your client(s) - who are not in a trance state - to interact directly with spirits through conversation and observation. Direct communication is a major difference between journeying and channeling.

Channelers must always discern the nature of the spirit who communicates to or through them. As shamanic practitioners, we have built in sentinels, gate-keepers, and "discernment meters" - Power Animals and Spirit Teachers. A shamanic spirit channeler, or in more traditional language, a shamanic medium, employs the skills and guidance of a Power Animal and/or Spirit Teacher to guarantee that the spirits who present themselves for channeling are there for only the highest reasons. However, as a medium we must never be careless or lackadaisical. We have a partnership with our Guides - they expect us to participate in full empowerment and inner discernment in the work we do. With the assistance and protection of the Guides, only benevolent spirits will be selected and allowed to channel through. These selected spirits will never harm either the channeler or the client, though they may convey information that is difficult to hear and/or feel. Spiritual growth and guidance are not necessarily the easiest path in a life. A sound emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual state is crucial before undertaking the practice of channeling.

Various degrees or levels of feeling may exhibit when the medium and a spirit have established a channel. Some describe this experience as a feeling of fullness - like being a balloon filled with air. A very soft buzzing, like bees humming within, or a subtle but strong energetic wave of flowing energy may be experienced. The channeler may feel an onslaught of emotions and must sort through these and present them accurately to the client. The medium may also experience direct physical contact.

Both channeling and journeying can be characterized metaphorically as an opening of a spigot through which a flood of information begins to flow. The medium must silence the egoic mind and be a clear channel for the words to come through as the spirit directs them. Speech patterns can change rapidly, and some information will make immediate sense while in other cases it may seem undecipherable or nonsensical. Information that means nothing to the channeler, however, may provide a huge insight or understanding for the client. When the information flows, the shamanic channeler does not edit or sort through the information to look at different angles through his or her own perceptual lens, but must simply convey what is coming through, trusting in the knowledge that their Guide is serving as the gate keeper. An important part of channeling is having faith in your Guide and yourself, and setting a clear intention for the highest good in the form of an opening prayer.

As already alluded to, some channeling is done with the spirit outside of the body, during which the channeler describes what the spirit is telepathically communicating, and some channeling is done with the spirit speaking directly through the medium, in a merged state. In our workshop, "Shamanic Spirit Channeling", participants learn to distinguish between their own egoic voices and the voices or vibrations of the spirits.

We want to make clear distinctions between the act of shamanic channeling and the occurrence of spirit possession. Spirit possession is done without permission, and without the gate-keeping skills of your Power Animal and Spirit Teacher. Most importantly, possession has no defined end point. Channeling begins with an agreement between the channeler, his or her Guide(s), and the spirit. The spirit has the permission to share, for a short period of time, the body of the channeler. When it is time to disengage, the spirit must without hesitation do so. Your Guide, your initial intention, and your own higher self guarantee that this will be so.

We also want to acknowledge Spirits can be tricksters. To add more intriguing amusement to our work, some spirits of the low base can attempt to invite themselves into the work and cause confusion. Low base entities are those whom have not yet transcended to higher levels of spiritual aspiration. Again, Power Animals or Spirit Teachers acting as gatekeepers, sift through such entities before they reach the channeler, and thus bring forth only those that work for the greatest and highest good. Playing the trickster or using humor do not, however, automatically imply a low base spirit. The highest evolved spirits often use humor to teach important lessons.

Nearly everyone can learn to channel. Just like anything else, as you practice channeling, your abilities will grow. Vigilance and connection to one's Power Animals and Spirit Teachers is most important as one practices channeling. The spirits will notice you more and will want to speak through you, as most humans have no awareness of spirit entities. Ask for protection from your Guides, and always, always have your "discernment meter" turned up to the highest level

The  Secret
is Out

The Secret, if you have not seen it, is worth watching.  The video captures fundamental principles of how to create and how to manifest what you would like to have or be or do in your life through the law of attraction and how to stop creating or manifesting what we do not want.  The video and the book, "The Secret", are new. The "secret" itself, however,  is not new.

Abraham in the late 1980's taught that universal laws govern creation. The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like. Period. Whatever we are thinking, we are attracting - good or bad, positive or negative, wanted or not wanted - if we are thinking about it, it is coming toward us.

If we sit paralyzed in fear, thinking  about attrocities, lack, deprivation, those thoughts attract the very things we do not want.  The Law of Deliberate Creation involves clear and purposeful thinking of what we "want" so that we do not create by default what we do not want. And the Law of Allowing involves acceptance of "I am that I am" and "You are that you are". We are, each and every one of us, perfect beings.  Perfect creators. We are here to create.  We cannot "not" create.   We must learn (remember) to allow, deliberately create, and receive.

A Course in Miracles, on page 448 of the text, states the following regarding our abilities:

"I am responsible for what I see.
I choose the feelings I experience, and I decide upon the goal I would achieve.
And everything that seems to happen to me I ask for, and receive as I have asked."

It is no secret.  We are powerful creators.  Create with purpose, compassion, and love.  Allow.  Receive.  Enjoy.

StreamWhile wandering through your wondering mind whether in a shamanic journey, a dream, a guided visualzation, divination, or any other form of information gathering, consider the following:

  • Set an intention (ask a question, ask for a healing, etc) .
  • Remember everything you can:
    • where (home, school, forest, distant planet, backyard...?)
    • who (friend, family,  stranger,  archetypal figure, rock star...?)
    • what (objects, events, situations... what's happening?)
    • when (nighttime, 503 BCE, your six-year-old birthday party..?)
    • feelings (fear, happy, confused, angry...?)

  • Trust your ability to interpret your own guidance
  • Keep a journal: Record your dreams, journeys, divinings, etc.  You'll be amazed. I recently read through a journal about shamanic journeys I did nearly eight years ago and was astonished at the relevancy and immediacy my notes still held for me.

I hope you enjoyed The Wondering Mind.

May your journeys through life be filled with joy, well-being and wonderment.
